Overseas Training

SpR's in the HST Cardiology Programme are required to complete a minimum of 50% of their training in Ireland.

However, it is expected that SpR's undertake a portion of their training overseas, normally towards the end of their training. Travelling abroad presents an excellent opportunity to obtain subspecialty expertise in an international centre of excellence.

Securing an overseas post takes time and should be planned well in advance.  Whilst some fellowships and grants may be available, funding is not guaranteed.

The NSD's are available to offer advice on overseas placements and it is also useful to contact past SpR's who have travelled as part of their HST experience.  At present there are Irish SpR's working throughout Europe, America, Canada and Australia.
